Week 5: Sherwin Williams Pt. 1

This week, we had a guest speaker from Sherwin Williams, Kylinn Cobb. She spoke a lot about paint and all the different aspects that come with the process of choosing a paint. She also spoke about the correct context that is required to accompany a paint in order to make it look its best.

Something new I learned about paint is the different types of primers and paints that go together and those that don't. We learned about oil-based vs water-based products that can mesh and that cannot. We also learned about the different environments and spaces that specific primers or paints work best in, depending on the traffic, humidity, smells, lighting, etc. that they are placed in.

We also learned a little about how color and light work together when choosing a paint color. I don't remember specifically what the rules are, but the placement of a window within a space can directly affect the color of a paint in that room. It is best to take note of the type of lighting that will be in the space you're working with and take it into account when choosing the type of paint and the color that you want to go with.

Overall, choosing a paint comes with many more decisions than just the color, but also the primer, the environment, the lighting, etc.
