Week 6: Color History and Trends
This week, we had Kylinn, the same guest speaker, join us this week. She talked again about color, but in a different context this week. Instead of specifically discussing paint, she talked about color in a more general context. She spoke a lot about the different eras of color and what the different trends were throughout history.
The 60s and 70s color palettes stuck out to me mostly because of the vibrance and intensity, and they're also very iconic eras that I think everyone can recognize. Another era that also was significant to me was the era of 2020. Obviously, this was during Covid, and I didn't realize how much the pandemic affected color. Because people were forced to stay in their homes all day long, they wanted to make adjustments and remodels to their spaces. This included color decisions, and people tended to stick with comfortable and cozy colors to make them feel at peace in their homes. Some of these colors include soft greens and blues, like more natural colors, to evoke that feeling of comfort.
Two other things that were interesting to me in Kylinn's presentation were her mentions of a third space and color drenching. A third space is directly related to covid and the quarantine that we had to endure during 2020. Before the breakout, people were free to roam and go out as they pleased. This included going out to coffee shops and lingering or other public places and feeling welcomed to stay as long as we wanted. After covid, this has changed because people created these third spaces in their homes because they weren't able to leave. I don't think society has ever gotten fully back to normal after this change in lifestyle.
Color drenching, for example, is when an interior space is decorated fully in one color with changes in texture or material. In other words, it is a monochromatic space. I really loved the mention of this in the presentation because this is something I would love to incorporate in my own designs and have been seeing lately in more recent design trends.
MaKayla- I absolutely loved you summary of the color presentation we had this week. I really was happy you enjoyed it and learned so much! I also think it's great you will use some of these color strategies in your own design projects!Your ink sketch is excellent!
ReplyDeleteMak, I love how you resume but at the same time explain so well what we look in class.
