Week 10: Container Home Process Review

This week in class, we went over each of our individual concept statements, adjacency matrices, bubble diagrams, and block diagrams. Here are mine:

In my personal review, both Amber and Professor Vandernoorda gave me very valuable information on how to readjust my floor plan by helping me think a little bit more logically on the placement of my stairs and laundry room. Amber suggested moving the laundry room closer to the bathrooms to cater to the plumbing necessity and also for it to be closer to both the bedrooms for easier access. She also mentioned moving the spiral staircase so it can be more of a point of emphasis in the living room, allowing for more space to add a utility closet, which Ruth brought up in her design and Professor Vandernoorda emphasized the importance of. So, this week, I will be making those adjustments.

I also presented my massing model, which allowed me to visualize how my home is actually going to look, which was another thing that I think helped my process along a lot.

Another topic we covered in class was researching the building code and necessary rules and regulations we need to follow based on where our container homes are located. We also mentioned conducting research to see if a container home is even allowed to be built in our locations. So, that is another task I will be tackling this week!

  1. MaKayla- I love that you listen to other thoughts, evaluate and implement what is helpful. My goal is to create an atmosphere in class where we give and receive helpful information towards a project and design that are well thought through. I love your sketches! 50/50 points
